DeAndre Thomas celebrates mediocrity, commits to Mizzou

posted by Jeremy Chrysler on 4/25/2005 - -

DeAndre, DeAndre, why did you have to make it personal?

“Illinois stopped calling me and it was like Kansas put me on hold to see if one of their players was transferring. Now, it’s all about payback, because I get to play against both of them.”

I was really looking forward to DeAndre Thomas. I was looking for a way we could get him to be a Jayhawk. And then kid’s gotta go and say something stupid like that. Yes, folks, DeAndre Thomas, who just weeks ago looked set to be a Jayhawk, is now committing to the University of Missouri. A bad move, we all know, made worse by the gratuitous loud-mouthing about payback.

For the record, KU didn’t have a scholarship for you DeAndre, so the only option we had was to see if someone transferred. I apologize if that comes off as a diss, but for crying out loud, there was very little that could be done outside of forcing someone out. Moody has paid his own way for years and I think he deserves a little payback for that himself.

You could have made your career at Mizzou a little easier by not calling out two rivals who have beaten you senseless time after time for the last five years. Now you’ll be wearing a big target on your back whenever you enter Lawrence, KS or Champaign, IL. Like I said, I was pulling for you, but man, you didn’t help yourself at all.

See you next year and best of luck at Mizzou.

Spoken in typical jawhawk fashion. I think that you have hardly beat Mizzou “senseless” the last 5 years. Here are the scores:04-05 we split (don’t recall the exact scores); 03-04 ku65-56 and ku 84-82; 02-03, ku 76-70, ku 79-74 and mu 68-63; 02-01, ku 105-73, and 95-92; 00-01 mu 75-66 and 75-59. Hardly senseless beatings, but that’s typical jawhawk mentality. I think mediocrity is what he’s trying to avoid. Look at the mediocre season your team had, being topped off with a narrow loss to BUCKNELL! ROCK CHOKE PHOG!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Josh Says:

Hey buddy, have fun in the NIT again next year. If you’re lucky Mizzou might finish with a record above .500. Probably not though.

  3. Peter Says:

John, how pleasant that you left out the 94-69 pummeling KU laid on Missery in the ‘04 Big 12 tourney. By my count, that is 9-3 vs. Quin with a few senseless beatings thrown in there.

Enjoy Deandre (Travon Bryant) Thomas. Awww, poor little guy couldn’t play for the big boys so he goes to a rival school for revenge. How’d that work out for you , Travon? Travon? You out there?

  4. The Phog Says:

Relax John. I realized that I may have overstated my point, but now that you’ve responded, I hardly regret it.

  5. The Phog Says:

John, I’m going to keep deleting your posts until you stop using all-caps. There’s no need to get nasty. As much as Mizzou folk like to revel in the Bucknell loss, I’m not terribly distressed about it. It was one loss in 105+ years and I haven’t given a whole lot of thought to it.

If you have something besides flames to add to the conversation, feel free to add them, but if you don’t, please don’t get everybody riled up without cause.

  6. john Says:

that’s the way, delete any post that doesn’t agree with your warped view of college basketball. what diff does all caps make? what comment did i make that was worse than “celebrating mediocrity by going to mizzou”? did you come up with a basketball player from kansass besides simien? no-i didn’t think so. the rest of the world can see why roy was so glad to get out of kansass. now they wonder why bill self ever left illinois. roy couldn’t win the big one if kansass, but it didn’t take him long after he got out! by the way, do you know where phog allen is from? rock choke, jawhawk!

  7. The Phog Says:

    John,

The all caps is a pet peeve. And given that it is my site, I have the option to delete what I want. I have found your posts to be particularly mean-spirited and flaming. I’ve mentioned dozens of KU players both past and future, on this blog, and I didn’t take your request to name another KU player seriously.

I’ll be opening boards in the next few months and at that point, I’ll let more through, but on the home page, I’d rather not subject every reader to Mizzou flaming.

  8. Mike Says:

I find it hilarious that MU is now gladly accepting our leftovers. Starting with Travon Bryant, Leo Criswell, this guy. I think Self feigns interest in below average kids just so Quin will jump on them.

  9. john Says:

phog, no i meant a kansas player from KANSAS. how does mike feel when kansas’ “leftovers” beat kansas. as for mediocre, you don’t have to look past lawrence. i think it’s starting to show that your high-powered recruits are hype-powered. many kansass fans are disillusioned by “bail” self-just wait, it get’s worse. his last 3 jobs have been for 10 years total. i wish we could hear what langford wants to say, but nobody wants to give him an interview.

  10. john Says:

oh yes, i almost forgot. phog allen was from jamesport, MISSOURI!

  11. Mike Says:

Weak Moo sauce. It is pretty impressive that as terrible as that program has been they still have fans willing to scour the internet looking for places to exhibit their KU-envy…

  12. Villa Tiliano Says:

MU will own KU as long as Bill Self is around and it will soon show. I read an article on DeAndre Thomas and the main reason he came to Mizzou was because he liked the coaches, players, and atmosphere more. Phog, it seems like he maden his descision and went to a better and more prestigious school that will soon be better than KU. I guess once you see the KU campus you dont want to go there, thats why everyone comes to Mizzou.

For the guy that says Mizzou will suck next year, lmao, Tigers will be awesome next year, look how deep our team is. It shows that you don’t know anything about basketball.

    GO TIGERS!!

  13. DC Says:

DeAndre Thomas is a tub of goo. I have seen him play and against 5′10 high school players he can through his fat body into them and score. Now that he is going to be playing with the big boys he will be a joke. I am so happy that he picked Mizo, thanks for taking him you will be greatly disapointed. Next year when our freshman make you deep MU tigers look like the JV squad again maybe you will finally shut up. Quin cut your weird hair.

  14. Mike Says:

Yeah, except the whole thing where he said he prefered KU and UI but they didn’t offer him… The kid must be lying. He really chose MU for the reasons stated above. LOL.

  15. justdontbiteit Says:

Is there anything funnier than a Mizzou fan trying to talk basketball smack? They got nothin’–not tradition, not scoreboard, not even a little tiny moral victory.

Look, I live in Chicago, and Thomas is no prize. There’s a reason Illinois and Kansas passed on the kid (and they did): He’s not built for the college game. It’s easy to camp out in the post when you outweigh shorter, smaller players by nearly 100 points… that’s not going to work in college.

By the way, john, Danny Manning went to Lawerence High. Whoops.

And, p.s., KU’s class next year is higher ranked than any class any MU coach has ever signed.

  16. john Says:

Hey, justdont’betonit, Danny Manning was from North Carolina and the only reason he went to Lawrence High was that Larry Brown hired his truck driver Dad as an (joke) assisstant coach so that his son would go to Kay U. Your bad! Is his Dad still in coaching? lmao

  17. john Says:

Mizzou would have swept Kay U just as Bucknell did if “Bail” Self would have stayed in the man to man defense as he stubbornly did right up to the last 5 minutes. That means Mano to Mano your guys can’t match up with ours, and it’s going to get worse next year. With the talent that you guys have had (check the NBA) you should beat us and everyone else in the country every time, but you guys always choke sooner or later.

  18. john Says:

If your athletics are so great, why have you cut so many sports and why do you still play basketball in a barn? Do they still milk cows in allen fieldhouse during the off-season? Maybe we could rent Hearns out to you guys for games since we don’t use it and it’s so much better than Allen Stables.

  19. Villa Tiliano Says:

Wow, KU fans really don’t know anything about sports. Of you guys have such a “rich” tradition in basketball and are so “GREAT”, then why do you take every little thing a Mizzou fan says so seriously? I know why, because it hits the spot and is very true. If it wasn’t for the KU fans, I wouldn’t mind Kansas, they are in the Big 12, and I favor the Big 12 as well. KU fans are the rudest and most low class people and thats why people dont like to play for them. That’s why no one showed up for the senior players little graduation thing. You guys are frontrunners and don’t know anything about basketball. WHen Mizzou turns the table and Quin takes us there, while Bill Self only lasting memory will be Bucknell fans wearing a shirt that says “Go Buck Your Self”, you’ll understand what I’m saying.

The only thing I like about Bill Self is how he lost to Bucknell when he had the best team he will ever have at his time in Kansas. Best of luck in the future Bill, lol.

Mizzou could sweep you next year, look at the depth! Jason Horton, Keaton Grant (maybe), Jimmy Mckinney, Thomas Gardner, Marshall Brown, Glen Dandrige, Leo Criswell, DeAndre Thomas, Keving Young, and Kalen Grimes. Is there one bad player on that list? No, we will own! This is without Kleiza, who will be balling in the NBA.

    Go TIgers, future looks magnificent!

  20. john Says:

Amen, couldn’t have said it better myself!

  21. Richard Baker Says:

Considering Texas and Oklahoma are going to be the top 2 teams in the conference next year in basketball, I think Jayhawk and Tiger fans have bigger concerns than each other.

  22. The Phog Says:

I think UT and OU will be the top teams in the conference, but I don’t see why that represents a big concern.

  23. The Phog Says:

And for you Mizzou fans who are yet again brimming with confidence about the magical coaching job that Quin will do, I would just ask you this:

Next year, sweep or no sweep, come back here. I think Mizzou will be about as tough as they always are,and I don’t think they’ll make the tournament.

I think KU will place somewhere between 2nd and 4th in the Big 12 and will beat Mizzou as often as they lose to them. If neither of those things happens, I’m happy to eat humble pie.

But I don’t think I’ll see you if your predictions of greatness fall short yet again.

  24. amish Says:

Phog, you’re just way to reasonable to be a blogger.

Justdontbiteit nailed it–it’s hilarious watching these MU types trying to talk smack. P*nis envy is a horrible, horrible thing.

  25. AJ Says:

“a better and more prestigious school”

When I read that comment, the world suddenly became surreal. Yeah, MU has prestige…like grade-schoolers have “class.” ;)

  26. AJ Says:

Incidentally, re: DeAndre, does the name “David Harrison” come to mind?

  27. The Phog Says:

Thomas is shorter than Harrison, and I don’t think we have any reason to believe he’ll be as ‘emotional’ as Harrison was, although as I’ve suggested above, given the gratuitous diss he laid down regarding KU’s position in recruiting him, I don’t think he’ll be greeted with buckets of oats and honey as he first enters the “Allen Stables”.

I hope he’s a good player - I like a spirited rivalry between Mizzou and KU.

  28. Villa Tiliano Says:

LOL, Mizzou will finish 2nd or 3rd in the Big and Ku will finish 4th.

  29. Villa Tiliano Says:

    1. OU
    2. Texas
    3. Mizzou
    4. Texas Tech
    5. Kansas
    6. Iowa state
    7. Oklahoma state
    8. Colorado
    9. Nebraska
    10. Baylor
    11. Texas A&M
    12. Kansas state

  30. JOHN Says:

If you arrogant Kay U fans would get your head out where you could see, you would notice that even last year you couldn’t match up man to man with Mizzou. We beat you handily in Columbia, and would have beaten you in Lawrence had stubborn Bail Self not finally gone to a junky zone defense in the last 5 minutes. If you couldn’t match up with us last season, then I don’t like your chances this next season at all. We weren’t very good last year and still dominated Kay U physically. No wonder Bucknell was able to bounce you. Where is Roy Williams? Winning championships, something he could have never done at Kay U.

  31. jmac Says:

Phog - reading your comment policy towards ‘idiotic commenting..blather…’ why have you allowed any of these Mizzou folk to speak? They don’t know any other language.

  32. Richard Baker Says:

    Phog –

I was just trying to defuse things.
