Mario Chalmers’ Dad Ronnie hired by KU

posted by Jeremy Chrysler on 6/29/2005 - -

I know this is going to upset some people and will of course bring about the inevitable “KU bought a player” recriminations, but the bottom line is that the Chalmers family was going to move to Lawrence anyway, and he’s qualified for the job. When the Chalmers thought they’d be moving to North Carolina, they purchased a home in Charlotte which is still on the market.

For this scenario to play out as the conspiracists among you would have you believe, KU would have had to furtively helped Ronnie Chalmers buy a home in Charlotte before Mario ever visited KU, then kept the home on the market by hiring incompetent realtors, all after they arranged to keep a job open for 18 months specifically for him, only to get Mario’s commitment and then, 11 months later, offer the job to Ronnie publicly.

I’m gonna have to pull out Occam’s razor here today. The simplest explanation - that it was a good fit - is the best.

Same thing happened with Danny Manning and his Dad. It is done throughout college athletics. It’s not against any NCAA rule, so it is perfectly legal. Good Luck Ronnie, glad to have you and your son in Crimson and Blue.

Actually, that situation was a little different. Ed Manning was hired several before Danny committed, which made it much more ’shady’ looking in my opinion.

In this case Ronnie is qualified for the job and he accepted after he had said he was going to follow Mario wherever he went and 13 months after Mario committed.

It might look suspect at first sight, but the facts don’t support that case very well.

Its this kid name Justin Glasper who is an acceptional point guard. He can pass, shoot, and handle the rock. The kid is amazing. I forgot one more thing he can dunk and he is only 5′8. People doubt him because of his size, but when people doubt him he gets really mad and he destroys the defense on the opposing teams. I’m telling you this kid can play. No colleges haven’t given him a chance. He is going to be a junior this year at Vidalia Comprehensive High School in Georgia this year. He graduates in the 2007. To get in touch with him you can call 912-537-7417 and talk to him or his parents.

To propose that this happens all over college athletics by referencing a previous instance of it at Kansas is absurd. By the way, I’d be interested to see how fat Anthony Longstreet’s pocket is now that Collins just committed. Or maybe he’s soon to be a new Bill Self assistant.

    occam’s razor

kid wanted to play in a better town, better program, better team, better coach, and much better looking girls. Not sure why Self would HAVE to pay Longstreet since the only thing Illinois had going for it was location.
