DeAndre Thomas won’t be at Mizzou next year?
Sometimes a bit of news needs no further comment from me. This is one of those times:
Illinois Prep Bulls-eye has learned that although 6′7 manchild DeAndre Thomas did achieve a qualifying test score on his ACT exam, he fell short with respect to meeting core requirements and as a result will be ineligible to play as a freshman next season at the University of Missouri. Rumors have surfaced that Thomas’ destination next season could be the newly formed Boys To Men Math and English Academy in Chicago, which will be coached by Loren Jackson, the former coach at Chicago’s Julian High School. However, at the present time nothing is concrete and there has been no official announcement.

I wonder what Villa thinks about this…

It’s alright, we still got lots of talent and he still might be eligible. Plus, you like that Brandon Rush has got lots interest in Mizzou??

What was that last sentence??

Sorry, I can’t dumb it down for you anymore than that. I’ll try again though. Brandon Rush has high interest in Illinois, USC, Missouri, and Indiana.

That’s funny. He is visiting KU today. Is that simple enough for you?

He’s visiting KU, so what? He visited USC too, you think he’s going there? Kareem Rush has offered to pay for his tuition at MU and is giving him good advice to go to MU. If he ends up going to KU, it will be a waste for him. Bill Self would ruin his talent. Quin isn’t so great with using players’ talent so far, but if you remember KU last year, with all that talent, you dont lose in the first round.

Man Villa, you couldn’t have timed that worse. All the stories today contain the quote of Rush laughing at MU.
“(Missouri) was just a fall-back plan,” Rush said. “I don’t have any interest in going there. ”
Fall back plan. No interest. Sounds familiar in Columbia, huh?

Ouch Villa, very ouch…

Laugh at Mizzou? His bro went there man, I’m sure he gives them some respect. Shows how much people love MU when they come here. Kareem is tryng so hard to get his bro to make the right decision and come to Mizzou.
Plus, I said he’s interested, I never said he would come. With kareem still influencing him, you never know.

That’s the trouble Villa - Kareem sort of boxed Brandon in by saying that. As Gregg Doyel suggests, the NCAA will likely see Kareem’s gift as a violation if it is tied to Brandon’s going to Mizzou. If he does go to MU, he’ll likely have to pay his own way as a result of what Kareem has gone on the record to say.
At least I would be very surprised if it didn’t raise eyebrows at the NCAA - and I don’t think that either KU or MU wants that at the moment.

Yeah, tons of respect, ‘they were my backup plan in case a real school didn’t want me’. Otis Redding would be proud.

Kareem is paying for him because there are no scholarships left. That makes total sense. Mike, don’t get carried away, maybe he doesn’t want to go to the same school his bro went to and live in his shadow. He probably wants to make a name for himself somewhere else.

Enough about Misery; it looks like Rush has some long-standing ties with Mike Davis - by long-standing I just mean that they’ve known each other since Rush was a freshman in HS (that could be 8 years ago…). What are the odds he gets pulled into being a Hoosier? Why would anyone want to do that right now?
On the Illinois front, this is kind of a fun coaching triangle situation again. If KU gets him, how much will the Illinois fans really start hating Self?
Last question, how much do we want Rush? He seems like a great addition to the basketball team from a skills perspective, but from a team chemistry perspective, things might get a little ugly with Micah Downs having to hang out in Rush’s shadow for a year. Competition is good, right?
