Jayhawks with a 2 seed in the NCAA Tourney?
Travis Robinett over at the Kansan thinks it’s possible. And I, too, think it’s possible, although I would put the odds at that happening at about 2-5%.
Okay, so a 14-2 conference record isn’t likely, but it is possible. A 10-6 record is certainly within reach. A team with the No. 1 shooting percentage defense in the country and a sudden offensive burst of 90 points per game during the past five games, no team will want to see Kansas in its bracket on Selection Sunday when, not if, the Jayhawks are selected.
I agree. No one will want to see KU. No one. And I think we’ll have a 4-7 seed, for what it’s worth.

It is quite possible that IF we win every remaining game plus the Big12 tournament we will get a #2 seed. And I certainly agree that no team - regardless of ranking or seed - will be happy to see us on their side of the bracket. I would, however, caution against getting ahead of ourselves here. This is a very good team with great potential. We have a good shot at winning in the Big 12,could go far in the NCAA tourney, and have every reason to be enthusiastic about our prospects. But, let’s not forget that we (or they, I guess) are still young, inconsistent, and have a lot of work to do. I would be more than happy to get a 4-7 seed. If anything, I would be a little worried to see us go into the tournament with a 2 seed - and all the pressure and hype that goes along with it.

As I’ve suggested, I’d be pretty happy with a 4-7. I’d almost be happier with a 6 or 7 than a 4, because I’d prefer to avoid the elite 1-4 teams in the country in the third round (should we be so lucky as to make it that far).
Right now, we’re listed as a 9 on bracketology. Since I’m done vacuuming (as Jankovich suggested last night), I’ll go ahead and speculate here.
Our stats, particularly over the last 4-5 games, are not those of a 9 seed. Only our losses are consistent with that seeding.
Our per possession stats suggest that we should be in the top 15, which is much more consistent with a 4-5 seed.
I think our record has already begun to better reflect the talent we have on the floor and I’m cautiously optimistic that the tournament committee will agree with me.
A good win over OU and a 13-3 league mark ought to do it, but I think we’ll be solid with at least 11-5.

You guys, speaking of the NCAA tournament. Did you see the Nebraska v. OSU game last night. I bring it up because in the NCAA tourney there are some many last second plays to win. The Nebraska won last night is a play that my dad has preached to me about ever since NC State beat Houston in the 1983 Tourney. Its the greatest last second play ever. Now whether either of these plays were planned, is another discussion. For those of you who have ESPN full court. Go back and watch how everyone stands around when the Nebraska dude jacks the long 3. No one would ever suspect that it is actually and alley oop. So waiting next to the goal is another Nebraska dude who is sealed off and has the easy lay in. Just like NC State 23 years ago.
Seriously, the greatest last second play ever!

“Why am I confident the Big 12 isn’t the dog it’s being portrayed to be? The Kansas Jayhawks, college basketball’s No. 1 secret.”
