We should start a thread of people’s greatest memories of a loud AFH. Mine would have to be the 2003 game against Texas. KU was coming off back to back losses including a drubbing at home by Arizona. Texas got their biggest lead at 13 in the first half before Miles canned a three at the buzzer to make it 48-43. That made it pretty loud. But not as loud as when the worst player in KU history Byrant Nash got fouled while swishing a three from the top of the key to bring them within a point. He missed the FT and TJ Ford scored a couple of buckets and gave the crowd the “shush” move with the finger over the mouth…the kiss of death at AFH. Later, Collision canned a three that gave KU the lead and they never gave it up.
Although I never liked Nash, he is responsible for the play that, in my memory, made AFH the loudest I have ever heard.
Runners up include Vaughn nailing a three with a second left in OT versus Indiana in 1993 and Woodbury hitting the game winning three as time expired against OSU in 1994.

My memory is actually of Allen at its quietest…1984 vs OU and the hated Billy Tubbs…Carl Henry hits a 45 footer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime…I was an 8th grader and I remember just absolute stillness as the ball left Carl’s hands…the red light lit up as the ball was halfway there…and when the shot went in, the crowd went bonkers!
Unfortunately, we lost in overtime but I’ll never forget how quiet it got before that shot went in (and how loud it got afterward)
