The Decade of the Hawk

posted by Mark on 2/14/2006 - -

Travis Robinett of the UDK says to start saving your money: Those SI Commemorative Editions are not cheap.

With the recruits he’ll bring in, Kansas coach Bill Self, who should be strongly considered for national coach of the year, is about to change those perceptions and put Kansas basketball back where it belongs in the media’s eyes.

Within the next 10 years, the Jayhawks will win at least two national titles. We’ll see how they’re perceived then.

Katz: Davis and Indiana should divorce

posted by Jeremy Chrysler on - -

I’ve been hearing this word divorce a lot. This time, from Andy Katz at ESPN:

The best move for all parties is to go through an amicable divorce. Then Davis can move on with his life and Indiana can move on with its own, too. The Hoosiers can decide in March or April whether they want to go with a native son, like Steve Alford of Iowa, or someone with Big Ten ties, like Marquette’s Tom Crean.

How green must the grass appear to Indiana?

Doyel Digs into the Quin Quagmire

Greg Doyel of CBSSportsline.com, in his regular Ten for Tuesday column, outlines the top ten reasons that Quin is gone. This is an interesting read.

8. Mike Alden: By not helping find a solution, Missouri’s athletic director became part of the problem. From the beginning — the hiring of Harvey, the pursuit of Whaley and Clemons — it was obvious Snyder wasn’t running his program the right way. Alden should have had the wisdom, courage and power to make changes. Instead, Alden let this story unfold. For that, he should be fired. Or better yet, Missouri fans: Let’s let Mike Alden pick another coach!

RPI Watch

Ken Pomeroy’s latest RPI projection has KU at 38th, which is important since we’ve now passed that mythical 40th parallel.

We’re up to 9th overall in his season-long ratings and nestled comfortably at 5th in his last 5 games rating (oddly enough, UNC is number 1 in that rating - good job Roy). By the way, KP’s now predicting 13-3 in conference, with a lone loss at UT.

Dunkel has us at 4th in the country in his latest index, behind Duke, UT and UConn (before last night’s game).

We’re up to 19th overall and 6th in the pure points rating over at Jeff Sagarin’s place (the pure points is more important to Vegas).

Dolphin hasn’t updated yet, but I’ll try to remember to update that later.

You might be interested to know that the composite of bracket projections has us at a #6 seed. Most of the latter day brackets have us as a #5, but some of the less frequently updated brackets have us as an #8 or #9, so we’re averaged up a little. I think if we win out while losing impressively at UT, we have a very good shot at a #4. If we beat UT, I think a #2 is still *possible, but very very unlikely. A 4-6 is most likely at this point. I would almost prefer a #6 at this point to avoid a possible run-in with UConn, Duke or Villanova.

Thoughts?
