As Brandon goes, so go the Hawks?
Luke Winn explores the importance of individuals to teams in a column today. I was surprised to find Brandon Rush in his list at #6.
I think the miserable performance at UT probably hurts him the most, but it’s still an interesting exercise.
Check it out.

You’re right about the Texas game. Because he only played in 3 conference losses, it really skews the numbers:
wins: 16.4
L to Texas: 3.0
other L’s: 13.0

That article was interesting. Especially the part where he says that Nevada upset Kansas earlier in the season. He obviously has no recollection of where these two teams were at that point.

I think KU was favored in that game by a few points. I could be wrong, but I believe it was KU -2, which would be a mild upset.

Man, do I ever wish I had access to whatever database (or personal research assistant) Luke has access to. Then I could lose my NCAA tournament pool in a way more scientific manner.

Kansas was a slight favorite in the Nevada game, but I didn’t buy it.

Correction, I obviously have no recollection of where these two teams were at that point. I should have bet against the spread.

Bret,
The Nevada game was a lose-lose scenario for KU. If we win, we’re KU and we’re supposed to win. If we lose, it’s an upset.
The UT game would have been a win-win had we bothered to show up and grab a few loose balls.

By the way, cheers to whoever got all of the Big XII games nationally televised. We are definitely not second fiddle to the Big East, Big Ten, and ACC, and I’m glad that they made sure of this.

In the interests of ego-massaging, I have to link this post from early in the season. Clearly, this was predictive. Brandon Rush: The Missing Link

Who is this Micah Downs that people keep talking about?
March 10th, 2006 at 11:39 am
I think it’s just a name for the concept “backup player for Brandon Rush”. Like the square root of -1, which is an imaginary number, this is an imaginary concept that cannot exist in the real world.
Coincidentally, Adam Morrison has a ball boy with that name.

By the way, these Big 12 games are NOT televised in NY. I’m not getting the Kansas-OSU game. So I’m taking back the “cheers.”

DH - you don’t get ESPNU?
The game is playing at the Back Page at 1472 3rd Ave (86/lex).
