Arthur Trims list to KU, UT

posted by Jeremy Chrysler on 3/27/2006 - -

KU and UT are grappling again, it seems…this time for the services of big man Darrell Arthur out of Dallas:

“She liked Kansas and Texas. She wanted me to go to either of those two schools,” said the 6-foot-9 forward following his initial workout Sunday as a McDonald’s High School All-American.

“So those two schools I’m really looking at the most, and I’ll probably make my decision based on those two schools.”

From what I’ve read, it sounds like Sherron Collins is talking up KU, and DJ Augustin and Kevin Durant are talking up UT.

There will be considerable pressure on him about his decision this week, not just from the players who want him to pick the same school they’re attending, but also from the media throng that engulf this event. Maybe he’ll use the McD’s game as a stage to announce his choice - but I doubt that!

Hopefully Sherron can convince him to come to KU, because really the only thing that this team lacks is a consistent low post presence on offense.

I think Darrell will find playing time in that rotation of big men and could be starting by the start of the conference season.

    When is Late Night?
    Not soon enough!

We need someone who can really clean the defensive glass like Simien and Gooden used to, even if this someone doesn’t provide the same offense. I’m hoping that someone will be Darnell Jackson, who was KU’s best defensive rebounder this year according to Pomeroy, but having Arthur around wouldn’t hurt.

Looks like he will take an unofficial visit to Arizona. There may be a third dancing partner in this party.
If the cats pick him up, they will be loaded next year.

    Where’d you hear that, jwerz?

    Jwerz,

I’ve read several interviews with Arthur he’s done while at the McD’s game. He says nothing about taking more visits. He does say that he’s choosing between KU and UT, but I don’t recall too much for Arizona fans to be encouraged about. In fact, he is quoted by Eric Bossi on Phog.net to say “my mom wants me to go to either Kansas or Texas so I’ll probably just look at those two schools.” I don’t think it gets much clearer than that!

    Where’d you get your info?

On the 26th, GOAZCATS.com was reporting that Darrell Arthur would making a recruiting visit to AZ. Arthur’s ‘plans’ being what they are, he may have changed his mind in the last three days…

This is from an Admin on the arizona fan site:

charcoal let’s put it this way…

If our sources didn’t like Arizona’s chances, we wouldn’t waste our own time. Why hype a kid if we know the UA is out of it? Selling subscriptions isn’t more important than credibility.

Notice how we haven’t run one Lance Thomas story or made a new post about him since I told you he wouldn’t be coming to Arizona? Why waste my time or yours?

No matter who writes an article on Thomas from our network, I won’t put it on the front page. I really wouldn’t waste your time and disrepsect someone paying to read this website like that.

If Arizona is involved with a kid, you’re going to know about it. Right now, the Wildcats have a very legit chance of landing Arthur. I don’t care what’s being said elsewhere, I’m telling you the deal as it stands right now. That could change in five minutes but I’ve been told that everything is steady.

Next week, Darrell, his mother and AAU coach will be in Tucson for an unofficial visit. They’re spending their own money to see if Arizona might be the best place for Darrell just days before he announces his decision. What do they owe Arizona and why would they waste their money to see the UA if it wasn’t a serious option?

If you put all the clues together, you see that Arizona is right in this. I know what’s being written elsewhere and I’m not promising anything right now… but I am telling you that Arizona is in the hunt and a very serious candidate.

If things look better or worse than they do right now then I’ll let you know at that time.
