From ESPN:

Former Oklahoma basketball coach Kelvin Sampson cannot recruit off-campus for Indiana or make phone calls for one year, ending May 24, 2007.

The NCAA announced Thursday its decision in the case that involved improper phone calls to recruits when Sampson was still coaching at Oklahoma.

Greg Couch has a scathing column in the Chicago Sun-Times today. He accuses Sampson of willfully violating the rules and encouraging his staff to do the same in order to build a team at OU that overacheived, which in turn allowed him to land a better coaching gig, which in turn pays him an extra $600K each year. Couch argues that the clause in Sampson’s contract permitting him to be fired if the penalties were stiff indicates that IU didn’t care about hiring a cheater, only that the penalties for his past cheating weren’t too stiff.

    That’s a good column.

    Completely unrelated, but:

KU beats Misery tonight in baseball, 4-3, when Misery’s shortstop trips over his shoelace throwing to first in the bottom of the 8th inning. With a win against Nebraska tomorrow KU could have tourney titles in Hoops, Baseball, and Softball- arguably 3 of the top 4 college sports, at least in the Big 12.
