Phog Blog record prediction contest (free t shirt, yo)

Ken Pomeroy predicts just one actual loss for the Hawks between now and the Big 12 Tournament - at Nebraska. That projection will surely change over time. Overall, he projects that KU will be 27-3 (due to risk adusting an additional loss in there non-specificallly) going into the post-season.

I don’t think we’ll lose at Nebraska, for what it’s worth, and I don’t think we’ll lose to A&M at home. I do think, however that we’ll lose one or two more weirdo games that I’m not seeing so clearly yet.

Speaking of record projections, I never made one.

Here it is, Jeremy’s official Phog Blog Prediction: 36-3

Doing that would break the record for all time wins in a season by KU and we’d have to get to the championship game to get there. Whether we will win or not…too hazy.

Speaking of projections, drop your projection in the comments and the person who ends up closest wins a Phog Blog t shirt. In the case of a tie, we’ll rig up some elaborate scheme by which the shirt can be transferred daily between the respective winners. Actually, I have more than one t shirt to give .

NOTE: I always pick optimistically. Since KU basketball doesn’t really matter, there’s no harm in it. Pick away.

I can’t see KU not being favored in any of their remaining regular season games.

My prediction: 33-6. KU goes down in the Elite 8 to Ohio State due to a barrage of threes.

So Peter, you think KU will lose 4 more times before the tournament and get a 2 seed? I think OSU will likely end up with a 1.

Of course, I think KU will also end up a one.

Put me down for 34-4 with losses at OU, to Texas A&M in the Big 12 tournament, and, let’s say, UCLA in the National Semifinal with both post-season losses being by a narrow margin as Gillispie and Howland succeed in keeping the games below 65 possessions.

To be honest, I did not really think about seedings when I posted my prediction. I suppose KU could also be a 3 seed. But I figure a 27-4 regular season and going 2-1 in the B12 tournament is good enough for 1 seed also. It just depends on how well teams not named Florida, UNC, UCLA, and Ohio State.

Of course, KU’s RPI is going to be badly damaged by playing in such a weak conference and having all major conference games at the Field House.

Finally, I have one too many games so my actual prediction is 32-6

And I must admit after KU thrashed Colorado 89-60 to go to 20-1, I was thinking title. Then they lost 6 of 9.

I too think KU will be 34-4, though I am a tad more optimistic than Hoopinion. KU will be 27-3 for the season. They will lose in either the Big XII Championship game or in the National Championship game. I really think we’ll be up for every big game, save the Big XII Championship and that our regular season losses will come from people we shouldn’t lose to.

Regular Season 28-3 (Loses to ORU, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M)

*Is there a reason Pomeroy is not counting the Winston-Salem game? I’m pretty sure they’re D-1 this year and he has them in his team rankings.

Q: My guess is because he’s using old schedule data.

Peter: Guilty as charged. We were the preseason number one that year and I didn’t anticipate a) JR’s shooting woes or b)Keith Langford’s injury troubles.

It was also made before I’d seen much of the team.

I think our schedule is pretty easy this year, relatively, and it’s not at all out of the question that we lose four or less games.

I am going with a 27-3 regular season. Loses in two out of the three games, BC, @ Texas Tech, @ Oklahoma.
2-1 in the Big 12 tourney, losing in the semis to a more imspired team playing to get in. (this would be good anyway, we dont want to win it)
5-1 in the Tourney, losing in the Championship to UCLA in the championship.

total record, 34-5, Big 12 champions, NCAA runner-up

KU would have to be a 5 seed or lower to go 2-1 and lose in the semis at the Big 12 tourney and they play 31 regular season games.

I’m gonna say 33-5. 27-3, 2-1, 4-1. Last loss they get burned by their 3-point defense.

Really, looking at their regular season schedule, there aren’t really any games they should lose. I would say A &M, Texas, and Ok St would be losable games, but they are all at home. That being said, they will lose again, probably on the road. I’ll say 1 loss to a Big XII North team on the road, to Texas A&M in the Big XII Championship game, and lets go with at Baylor or Texas Tech.

this team can definitely contend for a nat’l championship, but I believe either unc’s superior depth or osu’s greg oden would give their teams slight advantages in potential matchups, though I would expect either game to be a knock-down, drag-out fight. obviously, there’s a many a slip between the cup and the lip, and the most probable cause of such slips would be a lack of intensity or a lack of improvement between now and april.

KU will probably play in 35 games this season.

I think they’ll be lucky to finish 27-8.

More realistically 25-10.
