Computer Predictions for Tonight (Jan 15 vs. Missouri)
[Was going to wait and post this as a comment to Hoopinion’s usual preview, but I don’t know if I’ll be at the computer at the right time.] I’ve looked at the ratings on the Massey comparison page (plus the Dunkel), and compiled predictions for those that either list them or give explicit instructions on how to calculate them. So, here is what the computers (and Vegas) think about tonight’s game. (Game scores are rounded, so may not match score margins. And I used Sagarin’s “pure points.”)
- Greenfield … +9.3 … 83.1%
- Dokter … +12.5
- Dolphin … +13.3 … 88.4% (79-65)
- Sagarin … +14.5
- Vegas … +15.5 … (79-64)
- Dunkel … +16
- Ashby … +16 … (78-62)
- Pomeroy … +16 … 92% (80-64)
- Lynch … +18.3
- Moore … +22.9
Mean: +15.4 … Median: +15.8 … right in line with Vegas.

Thanks DH. Is it possible to build a Phog Blog ranking that is an index of the power ratings?
Also, KU moved up to 5 in both polls. Looking at the details, it’s evident that there’s some separation (perceived at least) between the top 5 and everybody else.

I don’t think this will be as high scoring as the prognosticators seem to predict. KU 69 MU 58 — take it to your bookie (but remember . . . you get what you pay for)!

I had neglected to post my prediction. I’m rosy about this one. I say we get up and stay up and win in a laugher. But everybody knows that I pump sunshine. I’ve got a machine that does it you see.
KU 80
MU 58
KU will get a lot of points in transition.

Oh, I forgot to post mine, too. MU’s really struggled on road and in conference games, underperforming their Pomeroy rating by anywhere from 11 to 19 points. I think that continues, especially since the Iowa State game should have reminded them not to play down to the competition. (Though I am wary of Missouri’s ability to steal the ball and force TO’s.)
I’m going to get crazy optimistic and say
KU 83, MU 56
As for making an index of the power ratings, the Massey comparison already kind of does that, although it includes things like the AP poll and the RPI. Are you looking for the same thing, but only including the compter power ratings?

Ha, so I’m looking for a 43-17 second half.
